Gamin is a project that re-implements the FAM specification with inotify. It is newer and more actively maintained than FAM, maintains compatibility with FAM and can replace it in almost every case. It is a Gnome project but it does not have Gnome dependencies.

Installation

To replace FAM with Gamin simply remove the FAM package, ignoring dependencies, and install Gamin:

# pacman -Rd fam
# pacman -S gamin

Remove "fam" from your DAEMONS line in rc.conf if it exists. Gamin does not need to be put here.
